What is Advocacy?
“Advocacy is taking action to help people say what they want, secure their rights, represent their interests and obtain services they need. Advocates and advocacy work in partnership with the people they support and take their side. Advocacy promotes social inclusion, equality and social justice.” The Advocacy Charter 2002

We welcome fellow advocacy providers, community organisations, health and social care providers and their employees alongside anyone with an interest in advocacy or health and social care in Leeds to join us. The event is for you, if you want to understand more about advocacy and explore how it can be threaded through the diverse health, social care and community support across the city.
There will also be opportunity to find out more about specific advocacy services which may be available if you want to find out more for yourself, friends and relatives or your clients.
The event will start by setting out advocacy currently on offer in Leeds before moving on to think about how a focus on supporting people to have their voices heard and their entitlements and rights respected can help people make positive changes to their lives..
Participants will then then divide up into smaller groups to look at the challenges experienced by a range of groups facing disadvantage (e.g. people with LD or MH needs, people who have experienced disadvantage.) before coming together to develop an action plan with the help of a diverse panel of experts.
